The other day, I was at the gym and overheard a middle aged woman ask her friend why women dwell on their imperfections so much more than men. She was saying that her body shape had changed and she was struggling to fit into her clothing. As a result, she had lost interest in her wardrobe. She had started exercising but still hated what she saw in the mirror. As an image consultant, that really saddened me. Personally, I thought she looked amazing but obviously she had a different mindset.
Dressing confidently does not come easily for everybody. For some, it’s way out of their comfort zone which can be rather stressful. This is especially the case when we’re shopping for clothes. As women, we are self critical and it can be really intimidating when we see the assistants in the store looking amazing in their clothes. Often, they are so convincing that you look fabulous in what’s so obviously not the right style or colour for you that you buy the items and end up never wearing them.
Being a confident dresser is combination of wearing the right clothes and having the right attitude. I’m a firm believer in never comparing yourself to others and rather, looking to people who can inspire or motivate you. Self-love is so important if you want to work towards improving your image and become the best version of yourself. Being happy on the inside and honest with yourself is a huge part of dressing confidently. When that body critique creeps in, it acts as a barrier and you tend to put less effort into what you’re wearing.
